BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Oct. 9 (PIA) - The Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) here have given various agricultural assistance and services to help farmers boost their income.
Alexander Domingo, provincial agriculturist said, from January to August this year, they have distributed 600 bags of certified seeds and 25 bags of registered seeds and 1,957 packs of Hybrid seeds for free to farmers in the province.
"This assistance came from the prize we received for winning the 2015 Rice Achievers Award by the Department of Agriculture (DA)," he said.
Domingo also added, the 2015 National Corn Quality Achievers Award fund gave farmers free 994 bags of Hybrid corn seeds, 1,200 bags of Urea and 10,000 packs of Foliar fertilizers.
He added, 895 cans of assorted vegetable seeds, 14,000 grafted Cacao seedlings, 15,000 Coffee seedlings and 3,000 Coconut seedlings were also given free to farmers
"This will also help our fruit-bearing and vegetable farmers, especially those affected by Typhoon Ompong," Domingo added.
He also said they also distributed 35,000 asexual and sexually produced fruit tree seedlings to various farmer organizations in the province.
According to Domingo, fish farmers were also given free 1,200,000 tilapia fingerlings, 1,000 fliers and technology guides to boost fishery production in the province.
He added that the 2015 Rice Achievers Award fund from the DA also benefited various farmers organizations with 9 units of hand tractors, with complete accessories, 2 units 4-wheeler tractor and 2 units of Mechanical Planter.
"All these services, projects and programs were geared towards the attainment and sustainability of agriculture, food sufficiency and food security of our province," Domingo further said. (MDCT/BME/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya)
