DUBLIN, Ireland - The eight men who were discovered hidden on a cargo ship at the Port of Waterford on Wednesday have been deported.
The men had been found hiding on board the ship which had travelled from France to Ireland.
A day after their arrival they were refused 'leave to land' in Ireland. This followed an assessment of their immigration status by Garda Immigration Officers attached to Waterford Garda Station assisted by the Garda National Immigration Bureau.
They were ordered to be deported to the country from which they had travelled from.
The men were deported, under garda escort, on a ferry destined for Cherbourg in France which departed from Rosslare at 8:30pm Thursday night.
An Garda Sochna said it had no further comment to make on the matter..
