PanARMENIAN.Net - According to the February rankings released by the International Chess Federation (FIDE), Armenia has four grandmasters listed.
Only one Armenian grandmaster, Shant Sargsyan, appears in the men's ranking s he holds the 55th position. Norway's former world champion, Magnus Carlsen, tops the men's classical chess ranking, Armenpress reports.
In the women's list, Armenia is represented by three grandmasters: Elina Danielyan (42nd place), Mariam Mkrtchyan (72nd), and Lilit Mkrtchyan (77th). China's Hou Yifan remains the world number one among women.
Former Armenian men's team leader Levon Aronian, who now plays under the U.S. flag, is ranked 18th.
