DUBLIN, Ireland: Gardaí have seized cocaine valued at about 8.1 million euros and arrested a man in his 30s following a search in County Laois on October 28.
Officers from the Garda National Drugs and Organized Crime Bureau searched a house and nearby lands in the area, where they discovered 116 kilograms of suspected cocaine, along with several electronic devices.
The man was arrested under the Criminal Justice Act and is being held at a Laois garda station for questioning. The seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for testing.
Detective Chief Superintendent Seamus Boland, head of the bureau, said Gardaí remain focused on targeting those involved in organized crime.
"We are determined to keep dismantling drug trafficking routes into Ireland and will continue working to make our communities safer. Please think before you use," he said.
Gardaí said investigations are ongoing.
